Chef Mom

Hey There!!!

This is a portion of my blog that I have decided to dedicate strictly to baby food. I LOVE to cook ( after all this DID start out as a cooking blog) and have found that I enjoy cooking for my baby as much as for the adults. It is so much fun to watch them try new foods and to get creative in the kitchen!! My hope is that I can also share my cooking tips and tricks with other new moms who are struggling to find different things to make for their kiddos!

Happy Eating!

For Jax’s food I use a processor called the Baby Bullet. You can purchase one HERE
Out of all of the baby gear I received from my showers THIS is hands down my favorite and most used item! If you do not have the money for a fancy gadget all you simply need are these essentials.

1. Bowls
2. A hand mixer or blender
3. ice cube tray for storage
4. Zip Top freezer bags for storage

Thats it!

I started trying foods at the recommended 6 months. For me personally this is what I felt was best for Jax..leading up to trying foods he was exclusively breast fed and so I was careful to introduce foods slowly each time. I isolated the food at first so for example our first foods were as followed:

  • Avocado
  • sweet potato puree
  • bananas
  • rice cereal
  • pear
  • spinach
  • peas
  • carrots
  • butternut squash
  • plums
  • peaches ( ALLERGIC!) <---- one of the top allergy foods for kids. Jax had a reaction.
  • green beans
  • Applesauce

Once we mastered the foods and I was careful to note any allergies we moved onto combination feeding.

* Jax had an extreme allergy to peaches. He wasn’t wheezing or having trouble breathing but his face did swell shut and he had a rash over his entire body. I gave him the recommended dose of benadryl per my pediatricians instructions and within 30 minutes the symptoms faded.

KEEP BENADRYL ON HAND WHEN TRYING NEW FOODS

you never know if your child will have a bad reaction.

Combination Feeding:

Combination feeding is basically where you group 2 or more foods together and make it more like a “meal” After Jax mastered the basic foods and also after I introduced him to meats we started blending his foods into purees and he loved it! The first few combos are as followed:

1. Chicken Stew
2. Beef Stew
3. Ground Turkey/Butternut Squash/Spinach
4.Peas/Carrots/Turkey
5.Chicken/Sweetpotato/Broccoli
6.Broccoli/Brown Rice/Chicken

These are just to name a few!

I will be posting the recipes on my blog!!!
